Patty Stevenson
About Patty Stevenson
I studied piano tuning in Chicago while still in high school. I apprenticed with a family member in the business, then started working for Polzin & Son Piano Craftsmen in 1981 with Warren Polzin, one of the finest piano rebuilders in the Midwest. I received additional training with Shari Malofsky and David Lovos who trained at the Bosendorfer Piano Factory in Vienna. In 1993, I was asked to run the tuning portion of Polzin & Son. The Polzin name was retired, but Warren’s sense of craftsmanship has remained with me.
I bring my expertise as a pianist to each piano I tune. I studied piano at age 4 with my grandma, who ran a music school in Chicago with my Grandpa. I later studied with Eloise Niwa (2nd pianist with the Chicago Symphony) and Zhanna Dawson at UWM.
My performances have taken me around the country, and my recordings have been played on radio shows around the world. (pattycraig.com)
I tuned the acoustic pianos on my recordings! To hear a sample, listen to “Romany” on
"The One About You or “Solitudes” on Clouds on the Mountain. Unlike many piano technicians, I end each tuning, as a pianist with real music. My motto continues to be “Piano tuning with a musician’s ear”
